CONTINUUM

Duration: 10 days, 10 hours

Chicago, 2017

A performative installation that symbolizes the rhythm of Josifov’s ten-day/ten-hour performances is created over time. The public was invited to watch, interact and participate with the artist as he builds the exhibit Continuum from the morning into the evening each day. Josifov performs his unique process as he manifests a multimedia exhibit.

Continuum is presented as an evolving installation that viewers experience with all their senses. The installation mirrors the world through fire. It evokes an inescapable awareness that the fire is within us. Igor Josifov has been using fire as a medium for over a decade. Continuum celebrates this process with films, installations, and performances using fire as a mark-making tool on paper, linen, and glass.

Continuum captures more than a decade of artistic exploration by Igor Josifov who uses fire as mark-making tool. The results are celebrated in films, installation, live perfomances, works on paper, works on linen, and glass and ceramic sculptures. The process is a performance. Josifov has transformed the Defibrillator garage into a temporary studio for nine days during which time he will create burned works and add them to an evolving large-scale installation in the main space.
